一In Alsaka,the ground is riddled with ice wedges,many quite ancient,caused by the cold earth cracks and the cracks fill with water.
二George Ariyoshi of Hawaii has served longer than any of his predecessors when he retired from office in 1986.
第一句,主从两句失态保持一致所以是 is 对 cracks
但是第二句就是 has served 对retired
到底什么时候该保持一致,什么时候又要体现失态不一致
从句中比如who,when这些先行词
它们必须紧跟 着被修饰的东西吗
比如who就必须跟在someo后面,when必须跟年代后面
he is a person in GE who ………………对吗

而且一直都在发生,所以都用一般现代时----主语+动词原形
第二句有两个事情发生在不同时间,但是都发生在过去
所以先发生的用过去完成时--- ---主语+had +动词过去分词
后发生的用一般过去式------主语+动词过去式

句子后面用retired说明那个人在那年退休，和现在，和过去没有任何关系
句子前面用had served强调了他在“过去”服役“了”的那段时间。如果他到现在还没退休，就可以说has served
