我个人认为：
第二个句子的确是主语+连系动词+表语,但是表语是“among the first to arrive ”,而不仅仅是“the first”.而再细分下去“the first”又成了among的介词宾语,所以并不矛盾.个人意见,请指教. ：）

among 是介词在这里，介词的后边加名词，代词，动名词等作宾语。the first 作among的宾语。这里的the first 其实是the first one 的省略。

我觉得他们的回答有道理，但是我认为the first 应该是the first ones的省略，因为介词用的是among,个人意见，多指教。
