4.Conclusions
In this paper,a parametric investigation on the defect phenomenon together with the theoretical nalysis and the finite element formulation for the CONFORM process is presented.For the parametric analysis,the five significant process parameters were examined.From the numerical results,it is observed that the wheel velocity does not affect the separation phenomenon while the other parameters do.The friction coefficient and the relative flash gap are directly related to the material flow ratethrough the flash gap and exhibit almost the same effect,the increase in restraint upon the defect in proportion to their
magnitudes.On the other hand,the relative abutment height restrains the defect occurrence according to its increase while the extrusion ratio facilitates its increase.
Furthermore,the limiting extrusion ratios are suggested with respect to the other process parameters such that the process can extrude products without the internal defect.
