美国传统大词典上对“副词”-“adverb”的解释：
An adverb is a part of speech comprising a class of words that modify a verb,an adjective,or another adverb.

当副词修饰副词时,有三种情况.

you.我完全同意你的意见.(不用fairly,pretty,very)We rather like the film.我们很喜欢这部电影.(不用fairly,pretty,very)
(3) 个别的程度副词(主要是quite和rather)还可修饰名词(注意词序).如：It’s quite [rather] a good idea./ It’s a quite [rather] good idea.那
可真是个好主意.
若此结构中没有形容词,则 quite 和 rather 则只能放在冠词之前.如：It was quite [rather] a success.那事相当成功.
2、副词重叠：两个副词之间没有任何关系,只是增强语气.
例如：very very(相当于汉语中“非常非常……,太,太……”的语气句)
3、固定用法：这里两个词组不能拆开,只是作为一个短语适用
例如：You were rude to say that to your father just now.
just now不是just修饰now的问题,而是一个固定用法,表示“刚刚”.
